Does your dog bark and lunge at other dogs?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, you're not alone! Have a look at the videos below.
An enjoyable on-leash walk is an elusive training goal for many dog owners.
In fact, it's one of the most common reasons people reach out to me for help.
At the extreme, walking a strong dog can be dangerous if they are reactive to dogs.
Fortunately, we have helped people with dogs of all sizes and breeds learn how to enjoy walks together. This is an art - and not all reactivity training is created equal. Watch the dogs in the videos below and notice how after training, they are relaxed and curious or neutral towards other dogs. Ears and bodies are relaxed, tails are wagging happily. These are signs of emotional ease. They aren't being distracted by treats either. Some reactivity training relies on suppressing the dog and/or distracting them with treats, which can result in cowering and other fearful body language signs, and eventually neurotic behaviour. That's not what I do. Knowing the difference is crucial for your dog's long term social and emotional health.
